Japan’s NHK says the Japanese government is arranging a meeting between Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss a possible missile launch by North Korea in early April.
The Japanese broadcaster said that the meeting would take place on the sidelines of a ministerial-level conference regarding Afghanistan to be held in the Netherlands on March 31st.
The report also said that the two are expected to urge North Korea to restrain from carrying out its planned launch on the grounds that even a satellite launch would violate U.N. Security Council Resolution 1718, which bans the transfer or sale of missiles, combat aircraft, tanks, warships, and nuclear-related products to the government of North Korea. It was adopted in 2006 after North Korea carried out nuclear testing.
Japan is currently carrying out diplomatic efforts to stop Pyongyang from carrying out the launch while also looking into initiating a defense system.
