'NK Fielding New Intermediate-Range Missiles'

The commander of U.S. forces in Korea says North Korea is continuing to develop and mature missile systems with intercontinental range capability.

General Walter Sharp told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Friday that the North is now fielding a new intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of striking Okinawa, Guam and Alaska.

Sharp added that the North continues to build missiles of increasing range, lethality and accuracy, thereby bolstering its inventory of missiles available for internal use or external sale.

The commander also said Pyongyang’s missile export program, with established links to Syria and Iran, along with its quest to develop improved ballistic missile technology, poses a threat to Northeast Asia and the world at large, adding that that such a threat cannot be overlooked.
