The pro-Seoul Korean Residents Union in Japan, better known as Mindan, has adopted a resolution to promote and encourage the use of the Korean language.

In the resolution adopted at a meeting Tuesday in Tokyo, Mindan said it has decided to use Korean during meetings of chiefs of its local chapters in order to promote the use of Hangeul among Koreans in Japan.

Mindan noted that there is an urgent need to educate younger generations of ethnic Koreans in Japan about their Korean heritage and the language.

To that end, the federation decided to hold a Korean language class twice a week at each local chapter.

Mindan will also encourage Koreans in Japan to open a bank account at Korean financial institutions to help Korea’s economic recovery.
