Freedom Group Urges Fair Treatment for Detainee in NK

An organization that works for human rights in North Korea is urging Pyongyang to treat favorably an American activist who illegally entered the North last week.

The North Korea Freedom Coalition made the call in a letter to North Korean Ambassador to the United Nations Shin Sun-ho.

In the letter, the U.S.-based nonpartisan organization said it is aware that Robert Park illegally entered the North. However, the group said it hopes North Korean authorities take into consideration that Park’s action stemmed from his love for the North Korean people.

The organization also sent letters to the Swedish ambassador in Pyongyang and the International Committee of the Red Cross, asking them to help Park get humanitarian treatment in the North.
