China is urging the United States and North Korea to take positive steps for the resumption of the stalled six-way nuclear talks.

China's U.N. Ambassador Zhang Yesui said Tuesday during a news conference in New York that the key parties must meet each other halfway so that the six-party talks will start as soon as possible.

Zhang said last month's talks between senior U.S. and North Korean officials in Pyongyang signaled a positive development.

Washington and Pyongyang have agreed on the need to resume dialogue, but the North has yet to reveal a specific date for the reopening of the six-nation talks.
