The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that with higher risk of terrorism in Yemen, it is stepping up safety measures for Koreans there.

The foreign ministry said it had explained the situation to Koreans in Yemen and is recommending those without urgent issues to leave.

It added that it is asking for stronger security in the offices and worksites of Korean companies in Yemen.

A ministry official said that the threat of terror is deemed to be increasing there. Accordingly, the U.S. Embassy has been temporarily closed, and approximately 10 Koreans in the Middle Eastern nation have decided to leave Yemen before January 31st.

Currently, there are almost 150 Koreans in Yemen, including 24 employees of Korean companies operating there.
