Radio Free Asia says that the Swiss government will launch an investigation into North Korea’s secret funds deposited in Swiss banks if it obtains detailed information on those funds.
Roland Vock, head of the sanctions unit at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, told the broadcaster that North Korean accounts at Swiss banks targeted by U.N. sanctions will be automatically frozen. he Swiss government will launch an investigation if other illicit activities by North Korea are found.
He said that he holds regular meetings with U.S. officials to exchange information, and the Swiss government and judiciary body will take appropriate measures if the North Korean funds are found to be illegal.
Radio free Asia also reported on Wednesday a spokesperson for the Finance Ministry of Luxemburg said that in line with U.N. and U.S. sanctions on North Korea, the European country is keeping a close eye on potential illegal activities Pyongyang can commit through its overseas bank accounts.
Luxemburg pledged to take appropriate judicial actions if North Korea is found to have been involved in illegal activities.
