US: No Doubt NK Engaged in Counterfeit Operations

The United States has vowed to root out North Korea’s alleged practice of engaging in illicit activities to amass currency.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters Monday that the U.S. has no doubt that North Korea has engaged directly in counterfeit operations as a means of bringing currency into the country, calling such acts “a long-standing practice.”

Crowley said the U.S. is going to be working with its international partners to try to stem the flow of illegal activity that allows North Korea to sustain policies which are of direct concern to Washington.

Crowley stressed that the U.S. is going to continue to apply pressure on entities and individuals who are directly tied to the policies of North Korea that are of concern.

He also said that Washington will continue to demonstrate that if North Korea continues its string of provocative actions, there will be consequences.
