South Korean ambassador to China Yu Woo-ik expects negotiations for a free trade agreement between the two countries will start next year.

Yu made the remark on Monday in an interview with China's state-run English newspaper, the China Daily.

According to an official at the South Korean Embassy in China, Yu said that bilateral FTA talks will likely start next year if preliminary consultations, which will start in the second half of this year, go well.
