LA Square Named After Korean-American Diver

A plaza in Los Angeles was named after a Korean-American diver in a ceremony in Koreatown on Thursday.
The square was named after 90-year-old Dr. Sammy Lee, a two-time Olympic champion.
Herb Wesson of the L.A. City Council earlier submitted a bill on the naming of Dr. Sammy Lee Square. The council passed the bill on July 21st.
Attending the Thursday ceremony were councilmen Wesson and Tom LaBonge, Lee's family members, former Olympic athletes from L.A., some 100 Korean Americans, and Michelle Park Steel, who is a member of the California Board of Equalization.
Lee was born in 1920 in Hawaii. He won gold medals for the U.S. in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.
