China has expressed its objections to the U.S. Defense Department’s plans to dispatch the aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington, to the planned South Korea-U.S. joint military drills in the Yellow Sea.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in her remarks on the ministry Web site that China has already expressed its stance clearly on relevant issues on the South Korea-U.S. joint military drills. She said China urges the relevant authorities to sufficiently consider China’s concern and position.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed opposition over a total of six times towards joint South Korea-U.S. military drills in the Yellow Sea. The drills are in response to North Korea’s sinking of the South Korean naval vessel, the “Cheonan.”
Although China did not react much to the joint South Korea-U.S. military drills in the East Sea, China is expected to strenuously object to U.S. aircraft carriers entering the Yellow Sea during drills.
