'21,200 Korean Names at Yasukuni Need Removal'

Japanese and South Korean experts are urging the removal of the names of the 21-thousand-200 Koreans enshrined at the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

In the seminar "Colonial Rule and Yasukuni," a University of Tokyo professor said the families of the Koreans demand that their loved ones be excluded since the shrine cherishes people who died for Japan, but that Yasukuni and Tokyo officials are ignoring their call.

A researcher at the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities in Seoul also says the enshrinement of the names at Yasukuni gives Korea shame. He urged the removal of their names and the Japanese government and the shrine to apologize to their families.
