A Japanese lawmaker has said that he hopes that many valuable cultural artifacts will be returned to Korea, beginning with the Joseon Dynasty royal records.

Akira Kasai, who has steadily helped the committee on reclaiming the Joseon Wangsil Uigwe to achieve their goal, told reporters in Seoul Wednesday that UNESCO supports the principle of returning cultural assets to its native country.

He added that he hopes the royal court documents will return to Korea before 2011. He predicted it could be voted on and passed in the Japanese parliament’s extraordinary session during late September.
