US: NK Can Create Environment for Nuke Talks

The United States says there are specific actions that North Korea can take to create an environment in which productive six-party denuclearization talks can take place.

The statement was issued by the State Department on Thursday in Washington, shortly after North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency said that North Korea and China had come to full agreements on various issues, including the six-way nuclear talks.

Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters that the U.S. remains concerned about the recent provocations Pyongyang has made. He said the U.S. wants to see a change in North Korea's behavior, adding that if the North pursues such change, it would indicate to Washington that it is serious about moving ahead.

Crowley said that the U.S. will meet with many of its partners in the six-party talks, as the U.N. General Assembly is set to open soon.
