Xinhua: Mechanical Malfunction Caused NK Jet to Crash in China

China’s Xinhua News says a mechanical malfunction was responsible for a North Korean fighter jet crashing in the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning on Tuesday.

According to the report, the North Korean aircraft had gone off course due to a mechanical malfunction and had entered Chinese airspace by accident before it crashed.

The report said that Pyongyang and Beijing have reached an agreement on how to handle the incident and that Pyongyang expressed its apologies to Beijing.

The recent report comes just one day after the North and China began consultations on the incident.
