UN to Provide Relief Aid for Flood-hit N.Korea

The international community is moving to help flood-stricken North Korea, with the U.N. deciding to answer the North’s call for relief aid.

Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Wednesday that the U.N. recently decided to provide relief aid to 15-thousand households in the Sinuiju region in North Pyeongan Province, which has been inundated by flooding of the Yalu River.

Quoting a UNICEF official, the broadcaster said that a U.N. inspection team will be sent to the flood-hit region Friday and that the aid will be delivered as soon as the team assesses the extent of the damage.

The U.N. relief supplies reportedly include nutritional supplements, tents and water purifiers.
