The government has reportedly notified the United States of its plans to promptly join the international community in imposing sanctions on Iran.

Second Vice Foreign Minister Chun Young-woo said Friday that Seoul plans to implement international sanctions on Iran as soon as related preparations are concluded.

Chun, who is in the United States for discussions on the Iran sanctions issue, added that he and U.S. officials discussed the content and scope of sanctions as well as how such sanctions should be applied.

Chun said that once he returns home he will discuss with related government agencies the details of the implementation process based on the consultations he had with U.S. officials.
