US to Take More Action against NK

U.S. Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey says that the U.S. will pursue more measures against North Korea in the near future in addition to the latest executive order placing new sanctions on the North.

In a joint news conference with U.S. coordinator of North Korea sanctions Robert Einhorn, Levey said that the new order gives the U.S. government the authority to go after the arms sales, luxury goods procurement, money laundering, counterfeiting of currency and other illicit financial activities committed by the North.

Einhorn also said that the U.S. will not reward Pyongyang just for returning to dialogue. He urged the North to take clear, irreversible steps toward denuclearization.

U.S. President Barack Obama signed Monday an executive order establishing a new sanctions program that targets a wide range of illicit activities committed by the North Korean regime.
