CNN Accompanying Richardson on His NK Trip

CNN says it is accompanying New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson on a trip he is making to North Korea.

The cable news provider said Wolf Blitzer, who anchors CNN’s “The Situation Room,” arrived in Pyongyang on Thursday to cover Richardson’s four-day private visit.

Observers believe that the North allowed Blitzer to visit with the intention of revealing to CNN its uranium enrichment facility in Yongbyon. Pyongyang disclosed the facility to former director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Siegfried Hecker last month.

Richardson said that he has conveyed to the North his hopes of being allowed to visit the nuclear facilities in Yongbyon during his stay.

Richardson is a former United Nations ambassador and energy secretary and has visited the North on several occasions.
