Pro-NK Paper Warns of All-out War

A pro-North Korean newspaper published in Japan warns that if South Korea retaliates with aerial bombing in the event of an inter-Korean military clash, it would lead to an all-out war.

The warning was issued by the Chosun Sinbo, a newspaper published by Chochongryeon, a pro-Pyongyang organization of ethnic Koreans residing in Japan.

The paper claimed that if the South had not scrapped its reported plan to use fighter jets during last month's military clash at Yeonpyeong Island near the western sea border, the clash would have escalated into an all-out conflict.

The paper also threw support behind the North's proposal for a peace treaty, saying that the current situation shows the war on the Korean Peninsula has not ended.

The Korean War came to a close in 1953 with an armistice, not a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas still technically at war.
