Russia Calls for Inter-Korean Dialogue

Russia is urging South and North Korea to settle issues through dialogue amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued Monday evening a statement calling on the two Koreas to resume dialogue with a sense of responsibility and to gradually expand bilateral cooperation.

Russia said that it clearly expressed its opposition to inter-Korean political and military confrontations during a U.N. Security Council emergency meeting on Sunday.

Russia did not, however, directly comment on South Korea’s live-fire drill conducted in waters near Yeonpyeong Island in the Yellow Sea on Monday afternoon.
