Japanese chipmaker Toshiba will reportedly commission the production of large-scale integrated circuits (LSI) to rival Samsung Electronics.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported the news, saying that Toshiba will focus only on designing LSI circuits and will outsource production in hopes of saving the up to four trillion won that would be needed to build LSI circuit production facilities.

An LSI circuit is a semiconductor chip that can process and preserve large amounts of data. They're used in cell phones, televisions and automobiles.
