The Foreign Ministry says it has advised Koreans residing in Côte d'Ivoire to evacuate as political unrest in the West African country grows.

Earlier this month, the ministry instructed Korean residents in Côte d'Ivoire as well as nonessential staff in the South Korean Embassy there to pull out of the country.

There are currently some 150 South Koreans living in Côte d'Ivoire, including businesspeople and missionaries.

The African country became mired in political unrest after incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo and former Prime Minister Alassane Ouattara both claimed to have won the November 28th presidential election.
