The sinking of the Cheonan naval vessel and North Korea's artillery attack on Yeonpyeong Island have been named in Chinese newspapers as this year's top ten international news items.

The Beijing Youth Daily placed the Cheonan sinking and the artillery attack on top of its list, while the Beijing Morning Post ranked the two issues second.

The Chinese dailies, however, did not report that the sinking and the attack were conducted by North Korea.
