The United States and China have reportedly agreed on the need to pursue dialogue between the two Koreas.

The Mainichi Shimbun quoted a senior U.S. government official as saying Wednesday that China has, for the most part, accepted U.S. calls to exert efforts for the two Koreas to hold bilateral dialogue.

The official reportedly said China has accepted the requests while outwardly pushing for a resumption of the six-nation talks in the wake of North Korea’s artillery attack against Yeonpyeong Island.

The report added that Washington is confident that it was China’s strong warning messages to the North that led Pyongyang not to engage in provocations during South Korea’s live-fire drills last week.
