A U.S. diplomatic cable disclosed by WikiLeaks says that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il expressed distrust of China to Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun in 2009.

According to the cable, Hyun disclosed Kim’s remark to U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Kathleen Stephens during a breakfast meeting on August 25th, 2009. Hyun’s meeting with Stephens came shortly after Hyun wrapped up a trip to Pyongyang.

Hyun also reportedly said that Kim ordered related agencies to revise parts of its “Arirang” mass-gymnastics performance that South Korea and the U.S. dislike, including missile launches and the participation of soldiers.

According to the cable, the North also asked Hyun to request provisions of food aid from the South Korean government and to tell Seoul that the idea was Hyun’s.

Hyundai Group has denied all the details of the disclosed wire.
