China's official People's Daily newspaper has positively assessed South and North Korea's New Year messages in which Seoul and Pyongyang conveyed their hopes for dialogue.

The daily said Tuesday that the messages are a positive sign and that it is encouraging for the two Koreas to have sent signals for dialogue, which was unseen for months.

The paper urged Seoul and Pyongyang to resolve issues through dialogue and negotiations, while calling on other parties to the six-way nuclear talks to actively cooperate and resume the talks as soon as possible.
