RFA: NK Ranks Lowest in Asia in Ability to Secure Food

Radio Free Asia says North Korea ranks the lowest in Asia in terms of its ability to secure food from outside sources.

The U.S.-funded broadcaster quoted a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report as saying Tuesday that the North needs to secure about 800-thousand tons of food from outside sources before November of this year to make up for its food shortage.

However, the report said, the North has only secured the promised support of 62-thousand tons of food from the U.N., giving Pyongyang the procurement ratio of only seven-point-two percent.

Other Asian countries ranked at the bottom of the list were Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Iraq.
