'Japan Mulls Returning Royal Books When Lee Visits Tokyo'

Japan’s leading daily Yomiuri Shimbun says that its government is reviewing plans to return ancient Korean royal books when President Lee Myung-bak visits the nation this month.

The paper said on Sunday that the Japanese parliament will soon complete the ratification of a South Korea-Japan agreement on the return of ancient Korean books.

The agreement, which passed at the lower house in the Japanese Diet on April 28th, is expected to pass at the upper house soon.

The report said that Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan may return part of the books when Lee visits Tokyo on May 21st and 22nd for a trilateral summit between South Korea, Japan and China.

Yomiuri said that Kan is also considering asking Lee to improve Japan's access to precious Japanese books in South Korea.
