US Official to Visit NK on Food Assessment Mission

The U.S. State Department says that U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues Robert King will lead a food inspection team in North Korea this week.

The group includes Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance Jon Brause of the U.S. Agency for International Development and other food security experts. It will visit the North from Tuesday through Saturday.

State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner said the team will inspect the food situation in North Korea and also meet with North Korean officials in Pyongyang.

Toner added that based on the survey results, Washington will review whether to provide food aid to the North and will also consult with related groups and the South Korean government.
