UN Committee Call for NK to Stop Uranium Enrichment Program

An expert panel of a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) committee on North Korea sanctions has called on North Korea to immediately halt its uranium enrichment program.

In a report, the panel declared that the North’s uranium enrichment program is for military purposes.

The experts said the North's construction of an experimental light-water reactor, which Pyongyang claims to be for peaceful use, violates UNSC resolutions 1718 and 1874. They urged the North to stop building it.

The panel's latest report includes an image of the North's Yongbyon nuclear site and the uranium enrichment plant taken by the earth observation satellite IKONOS on May second.

The panel says that it's very likely that one or more clandestine nuclear facilities that can produce low-concentration or highly enriched uranium exist somewhere in North Korea.
