Japan’s Water Imports from S.Korea Surges

Written: 2011-05-31 13:50:21Updated: 2011-05-31 17:55:32

Japan’s imports of water from South Korea surged more than 15-fold year-on-year in April following the massive earthquake that struck the island nation on March 11th.

According to trade statistics released by Japan’s Finance Ministry, Japan imported more than 24,500 kiloliters of water from South Korea in April, up 15-point-seven times from 1,566 kiloliters in the same month last year.

The surge is attributable to Japanese distributors’ rush to import South Korean bottled water, as Japanese people began to hoard it after the earthquake struck.
