'Stability on Korean Peninsula Inseparable from Koreas' Efforts'

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu says that stability on the Korean Peninsula is inseparable from joint efforts and cooperation by the two Koreas.

Jiang made the remarks on Tuesday during a regular news briefing when asked about China’s position on North Korea’s recent announcement that it will no longer deal with South Korea.

The spokeswoman said that the peninsula belongs to both South and North Korea.

Jiang added that a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula is in the interest of both Koreas, urging the two to make incessant and constructive efforts to denuclearization.

The spokeswoman, however, evaded answering questions regarding the possibility of working-level talks between China and North Korea in order to resume the six-party nuclear talks.
