Hyundai Kia's Market Share in US Sales Tops 10%

The Hyundai Kia Automotive Group saw its market share in the United States surpass ten percent for the first time last month.

Hyundai Motor America said Thursday that it sold around 59-thousand automobiles last month, or up 21 percent from the same period last year. The figure was the highest to be recorded for the month of May. Hyundai Motor America said it has been posting monthly highs for the past five consecutive months.

Kia Motors Corporation also saw an increase in sales. It sold some 48-thousand units last month, posting growth of more than 53 percent, which was the highest sales growth among top automakers.

The South Korean automaker ranked fifth after GM, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota in sales in the U.S. in May.
