US Treasury Official Visiting Seoul, Tokyo on Iran

The U.S. Department of Treasury says that a ranking department official will visit South Korea and Japan from Tuesday to urge the two Asian nations to impose additional sanctions on Iran.

The department's Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes David Cohen will travel to the two nations for four days. The visit comes amid allegations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that despite U.N. sanctions, Iran has continued to stockpile low-enriched uranium.

The Treasury Department said that a delegation led by Cohen will stress in Seoul and Tokyo the need for stronger global sanctions in order to block Iran from using the international finance system in its pursuit of its illegal nuclear weapons program.
