US House Seeks Stronger Sanctions on NK

A bill calling for stronger sanctions on North Korea has also been submitted to the U.S. House of Representatives.

The bill titled "The Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Reform and Modernization Act" was submitted Friday by Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee and others.

The bill calls for reinforcing and expanding sanctions regarding the so-called rogue states.

Under the bill, organizations or companies that sell or provide products related to weapons of mass destruction as well as conventional military supplies or technologies to the three countries will be sanctioned.

The bill also calls for freezing the assets of these entities held in the United States and banning their access to the U.S. financial system.

Ships that had entered the three countries will be banned entry into a U.S. port and search operations will be tightened for vessels heading to the U.S. from ports where North Korean, Syrian or Iranian ships had been docked.
