NK, China to Mark Anniv. of Signing of Accord on Promoting Friendly Ties

North Korea and China will mark on Monday the 50th anniversary of the signing of an accord on promoting friendly relations, cooperation and mutual assistance.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei told reporters on Wednesday that a North Korean delegation led by the Supreme People's Assembly Vice President Yang Hyong-sop will visit China at Beijing’s request from Saturday to Tuesday to celebrate the approval of the agreement.

Hong said a Chinese delegation headed by Vice Premier Zhang Deijang of the State Council will visit the North from Sunday to Wednesday to attend a ceremony marking the anniversary.

The accord, which was signed on July eleventh, 1961, includes a clause under which North Korea and China pledged to provide military assistance in the event one of the two countries is attacked or faces war.
