Foreign news outlets were quick to report on Pyeongchang’s successful bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

CNN said that South Korea was in jubilation over the nation’s right to host the Winter Games.

The French daily Le Monde accepted the defeat of France’s Annecy, saying that Pyeongchang’s overwhelming victory was only natural.

The British newspaper Guardian reported that within a span of 30 years, South Korea has won the right to host several major international sporting events. Seoul was home to the 1988 Summer Olympic Games and co-hosted the World Cup finals with Japan in 2002. The 2011 IAAF World Championships in Athletics will open in Daegu in late August.

Russian media praised South Korea’s perseverance to make three consecutive bids before finally winning the right to host the games. Russia’s Sochi beat Pyeongchang in a previous bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
