ASEAN Calls for Swift Resumption of 6-Party Nuke Talks

The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) called for a swift resumption of the six-party nuclear talks at its 44th Ministerial Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia on Wednesday.

Ten ASEAN members, including Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam, promised to support members of the six-way talks. The ASEAN members expressed their intent to create favorable conditions for the resolution of the North Korean nuclear problem through the 18th ASEAN Regional Forum in Bali on Saturday.

The nations also stressed the importance of dialogue between China and the ASEAN to promote peace and stability in the South China Sea.

The association and China agreed Wednesday on the Guidelines on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea following talks between senior officials from both sides at the forum in Bali.
