NK Vice FM Kim Kye-Kwan Expected to Visit US

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan will reportedly visit New York soon at the invitation of a private U.S. think tank.

Radio Free Asia quoted several U.S. diplomatic sources as saying that American experts on Korean Peninsula issues have been promoting a visit by the North Korean vice foreign minister to the U.S. They added that the U.S. State Department has decided to issue a visa to Kim, who has been invited to attend an event hosted by a U.S. research institute next week.

But accurate information on when Kim will visit New York and who has invited him has not been confirmed.

Some say that the North Korean vice foreign minister will visit New York on August first.

If Kim visits the U.S., dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea will gain steam on the heels of the latest inter-Korean meeting in Bali, Indonesia on Friday.
