Clinton Urges NK to Improve Ties with S,Korea First

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says that North Korea should take actions to improve its relations with South Korea before resuming the stalled six-party nuclear talks.

Clinton said Saturday that the U.S. is excited and encouraged by a meeting between South and North Korean chief nuclear negotiators, which was held in Bali on Friday.

She made the remarks in an address whose text was distributed in advance.

The U.S. secretary of state is visiting Bali to attend the 18 ASEAN Regional Forum.

But Clinton said that North Korea should still prove that it has shifted its stance and is ready to return to the six-way nuclear talks.

She urged North Korea to demonstrate changes in its behavior by putting an end to its provocations, taking irreversible measures to scrap its nuclear program and adhering to the promises it made in previous denuclearization agreements.
