Clinton: NK’s Vice Foreign Minister to Visit US

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says North Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan will visit the U.S. next weekend to discuss resuming the six-party nuclear talks.

During her visit to Bali, Indonesia for the 18th annual ASEAN Regional Forum, Clinton said that the U.S. invited Kim to New York. This follows inter-Korean talks on denuclearization held Friday by South and North Korean representatives attending the forum in Bali.

Calling the envisioned contact exploratory talks aimed at resuming the six-party nuclear talks, Clinton said that the U.S. does not intend to reward the North just for returning to the table although it is open to talks with the North

Kim's New York visit will mark the resumption of U.S.-North Korean dialogue 19 months after Stephen Bosworth, the top U.S. envoy on Korean Peninsula affairs, visited Pyongyang in December 2009.
