North Korea has rejected South Korea’s proposal of economic aid in return for the North’s abandonment of its nuclear programs.

The Wall Street Journal on Sunday quoted South Korea’s top nuclear envoy Wi Sung-lac as saying in a meeting with reporters that the North was negative toward the aid-for-weapons proposal when he met North Korean officials last week in Indonesia.

Wi reportedly said that the North also declined to set schedules for further meetings with the South.

The envoy also said that he does not expect surprising results from the recent high-level talks between the U.S. and North Korea in New York, adding it is just a beginning.
