Japan Reiterates Territorial Claims over South Korean Islet

Japan has reiterated its territorial claims over South Korea’s easternmost islets of Dokdo in its defense white paper for this year.

The Japanese government finalized this year’s defense white paper during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Tokyo states in the document that the islets in the East Sea is its own territory saying that a territorial dispute between South Korea and Japan over the islets remains unresolved.

It marked the seventh consecutive year for Japan’s defense white paper to describe Dokdo as Japanese territory.

The Japanese defense ministry also labeled the islets with a Japanese name on a map of its territories.
