S. Korea to Build Solar Power Plant in Galapagos

South Korea is preparing to build a one-point-fve-megawatt solar power plant in the Galapagos Islands.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency said the plant will be constructed on Santa Cruz Island, which is part of the Galapagos archipelago located off the west coast of Ecuador.

The South Korean government will spend ten million dollars from its overseas development aid fund to pay for the plant’s construction and dispatch experts in renewable and electrical energies to Ecuador for the transfer of technology.

The solar power plant will be capable of generating a third of the electricity consumed on the island, helping the locals overcome a chronic shortage of power. Construction will be completed by the end of next year.
