Suicide Attacks Kill at least 55 in Damascus

Al Jazeera and other foreign media say at least 55 people are dead and some 370 wounded after suicide car bombers struck the Syrian capital of Damascus on Thursday.

Syria’s health ministry announced that two strong explosions rattled areas near Syria’s intelligence agency headquarters at around 7:50 a.m., local time.

The blasts were the most deadly since Syria became mired in antigovernment protests in March of 2011.

Syria’s state-run TV said that Thursday’s bomb attacks were carried out by terrorists. It added the damage was significant given the attacks took place as people headed to work and students went to school.
