The Korean society of New York is pushing to issue stamps in the United States to honor those who were forced into sexual slavery during the Japanese colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula.

Han Chang-yeon, the chairman of the group, said in a phone interview with Yonhap News Agency on Saturday that the group was currently in talks with the U.S. Postal Service on the issuance of the stamps and that the talks are expected to produce results by the end of May at its earliest.

Han said no difficulties were expected in the issuance, as Congress had already passed a resolution for the victims of the Japanese colonial rule and that the stamps would probably become available from mid-June.

Roughly over 100,000 stamps are likely to be printed.
