US Urges N. Korea to Fulfill Int'l Obligations Following Reports on LWR

The U.S. Defense Department has urged North Korea to abide by its international obligations as reports surface that North Korea has resumed construction of a light water reactor within its nuclear complex in Yongbyon.

U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and Pentagon Press Secretary George Little told reporters on Thursday that he cannot reveal any details on intelligence matters but noted that measures recently taken by North Korea are of no help.

Little said that the North must heed the U.S. and international community’s request to take the proper action and to fulfill its international obligations.

Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Tom Donilon said that issues regarding the North will be discussed when the leaders of the G8 nations hold a summit this weekend in Washington.
