Syriza Head Says Victory Doesn't Imply Greek Exit from Euro Zone

The head of Greece’s Coalition of the Radical Left, known as Syriza, says that its victory in Greece’s second parliamentary elections doesn't mean Greece will be leaving the euro zone.

Alexis Tsipras said in a speech in Athens Sunday that predicting that a Syriza victory in next month's second parliamentary election will lead to Greece’s exit from the euro zone is vulgar political propaganda and tantamount to a terrorist act against the Greek people.

Syriza led the right-wing New Democracy Party in all polls up until the second election was scheduled for June 17th. But now, the right-wing party is leading by one to three percentage points.

Greece is holding a second parliamentary election since it failed to form a coalition government in the first election. The voting next month is seen as a referendum on whether Greece will stay in the euro zone and whether the nation will adhere to the EU-IMF recovery plan calling for fiscal austerity.
