US Senate: Counterfeit Parts Threaten National Security

The U.S. Senate’s Armed Services Committee says more than one million counterfeit electronic parts from China were found in U.S. Air Force planes, creating an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security and the safety of its military personnel.

The Senate Armed Services Committee said in a report that its investigation found one-thousand-800 cases of bogus parts being used in the manufacture of the U.S. Air Force’s largest cargo plane, special operations helicopters, and in a Navy surveillance plane.

Committee Chairman Carl Levin led the investigation and said the findings underscore China’s failure to police the counterfeit parts market. He said China should rectify the failure.

The report said that the Chinese government denied visas to committee staff who planned to travel to China as part of the committee’s investigation.
